I feel like I've just crawled out of a shell & am checking out the scenery, because... yup... I'm RETIRED!
25 years... whew
Now that I'm retired from teaching *I* get to be the artist! It feels amazing to have time to do my thing!
The wrinkle is that i have long covid. So my reduced energy level has forced me to prioritize, and my priorities right now are
1. Diving headfirst into custom crochet
2. Opening up my studio for guests
Custom crochet
I hope to offer custom crochet out to the big world of etsy etc, but I need to figure out sizing & pricing, so i would like to offer local friends an opportunity to get some really cool crochet AT COST. In exchange, I ask the following:
#1 YOU MUST LOVE WHAT I MAKE. We will choose something that fits and flatters, makes you feel cool & special. I will work with you on taking measurements, choosing yarn and a design that work in your budget - I'm convinced that is possible. It will be helpful to me to work through this process with local people who might be able to meet at a yarn store or come for a consultation or fitting, so I will do this at minimal cost until i can take it online.
(I also have so much crochet available for sale- im working on getting it on etsy, but if you want to look through, let me know. I get so many compliments when im wearing my stuff - i know many of you will enjoy it too!)
#2 i will process your commission through etsy, and ask you to write a review. This will help my shop gain both credibility and visibility.
Open studio:
I'm designating Tuesdays as Open studio days, from 8-8*.
If you want to come over and work side by side, come on over! If you need instruction (vs feedback and opinion) there will be a fee.
If you want to use my equipment or materials (see the list below) there will be a fee.
I have tons of glass & glass making equipment, a decent jewelry making set-up, yarn, and other random supplies. If you have wanted to give these things a try, here's a great chance to do it without investing in all the stuff that's needed!
- i'm starting small with the fees for now to see how it goes - $10/half day using equipment or light instruction. If you want serious LESSONS that's $40/hour, and in most cases you can split that fee with a friend or 2.
- if Tuesdays are no good for you, throw out another day! I'm probably free
- full disclosure, i was in the middle of reorganizing my studio when I got covid, so it's not totally organized yet. I might ask you to toss stuff in a box in order to clear a work space, but that will be reflected in your fee or lack thereof. 😉
- would you like to model some crochet? Instead of a fee, model for me!
*I have dr appts sometimes that i must be out for, but am trying to keep Tuesdays free going forward, so do contact me first. I would prefer if you let me know when you're coming, but Tuesday drop ins are fine.
Other than that I'm just over here creating, and it feels great. Im looking at artist residencies, grants, and other opportunities toshare my talents. I'm thinking about doing the Christmas market in West Chester in December- we'll see! I love having this open schedule. The possibilities feel endless and inspiring!
Contact me if you have any questions, and if you have friends who are interested, pass it on!
I am on tik tok, bluesky, etsy, and cara, all as highheeled pancakes. I still have Instagram but rarely go there.
Hope to see you soon!
Christy
